I am in a weight loss competition with a few guys at work and there’s a big bet on the line. It’s so big that I’m actually serious about losing weight and becoming healthy.
I’m doing all the right things – eating healthy (dieting), going to gym, drinking a lot of water and all that.
Sure, there’s weight loss happening and I’m leading the competition at the moment, but here’s the truth: Changing this habit is insanely difficult.
In fact, changing any habit is super tough.
Trust me – I’ve kicked quite a few bad habits and I’ve discovered that there’s a trick to these things.
Changing A Habit Is Tough
You see macha, when we try to change stuff, it’s difficult. We have relapses. We’re human after all – and we’re bound to mess up.
And when we mess up, we feel like it’s the end of the world – and we give up COMPLETELY.
Ate ice cream? Fuck the diet. Didn’t go to the gym? Don’t go back at all. Didn’t read a book this weekend? Binge watch ‘House of Cards’ on Netflix.
Here’s the thing – though I am ‘dieting’ and ‘exercising’, I skip the gym every now and then. In fact, last week, on Thursday, I had biryani, Coke, 4 small pizzas and 3 chocolate mousses and a mojito – while I was supposed to be on a diet.
Yeah. I know. Fuck the diet, right?
The Trick To Change A Habit
This is called stumbling – not failing. Just because I stuffed myself at an all you can eat buffet, I didn’t give up on the diet. I just started dieting again the next day. When I missed the gym, I apologised to the trainer and went back the next day.
We’re human da. Chill. We all fuck up. The secret is in getting back to your habit as soon as possible and start again.
Trust me. Been there, done that.
So can you.
Till next time, love.
